Scope and content

Series consists of records relating to Michael Phillips's research on William Blake and scholarly studies, and includes school notebooks and notecards, correspondence, articles, sales contracts and invoices, notes, photographs and photonegatives. Of particular note is a large collection of colour slides related to Phillips's research into printmaking and Blake's illuminated printing.

Notebook was used by Michael Phillips in 1991 for his research for his book The Creation of the Songs : From Manuscript to Illuminated Printing (Princeton, 2000), when he travelled North America to see all copies in public and private collections.  The lists and notes correspond with the 35mm colour slides of the Songs copies.
