Series contains manuscripts, drafts, notes, research material, programs, correspondence and other records relating to R.M.'s addresses and speeches at academic convocations, memorials, tributes, dedications, fund raising events (including World War causes), and before various associations and societies: subjects include Abraham Lincoln, politics, religion, arts and entertainment, acting, and the theatre, 1940-1967. Also includes manuscripts, drafts, notes, scripts, correspondence and legal records relating to two plays, primarily "The Hanging Judge", 1948-1958; and manuscripts, correspondence, publicity and reviews of the published autobiographies, "When I Was Young" (1976) and "A Hundred Different Lives" (1979).
