The Canadian Film Centre was founded by Norman Jewison. Incorporated in 1986 as the Canadian Centre for Advanced Film Studies, it began operations in 1988 on the Windfields property in Toronto. The Centre is a national organization mandated to provide practical progammes to filmmakers, enhance the skills of film and television professionals, and hold forums for film and television discussion with respected filmmakers. Since its inception Norman Jewison has committed time and resources to the Centre’s mission to advance the technical and artistic abilities of directors, producers and writers, and to promote the Canadian film and television industry; in 1998 he received the first “Lifetime Achievement Award” for his work, which includes acting as Chair Emeritus and serving on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee, fund raising, lecturing, and soliciting guest speakers.
