Personal correspondence

Series consists of incoming and outgoing personal correspondence, 1935–1977 : JNH’s outgoing correspondence, n.d.,1935–1944, 1954, incoming/outgoing correspondence, n.d., 1941–1953, and incoming correspondence, n.d., 1941–1945, 1961–1964, 1977; Aileen Dunkeld/Harris’s incoming correspondence, n.d.,1942–1951; JNH’s family’s incoming correspondence, including letters from Aileen, 1938–1951; and incoming/outgoing correspondence re JNH’s writing and publishing. Correspondents are primarily JHN’s wife Aileen, his father and other family members, a British friend, Jean Reynolds, various other friends and colleagues, including poet George Benson Johnston,and RAF officials. Subjects include family/social matters, JNH’s activities in England, 1937–1942, including his experiences in the Royal Air Force; detention in a German Stalag, 1942–1945; and post-war employment seeking and writing in Canada.
