Cameron Tolton is a noted academic and long-time Professor at Victoria Univeristy.  He was born in Toronto in 1936, the second son of two teachers. After graduating from Humberside Collegiate with First Class Honours, he was awarded three Admissions Scholarships to Victoria College (Honours (B.A. 1958), where he earned a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship towards graduate study at Harvard University (A.M., 1958; Ph.D. 1965).

In 1964, he began his teaching career at Victoria as a Lecturer in French, progressing to Full Professor in 1983. While continuing in the Victoria Department of French he began to teach Cinema Studies there, as well as at Innis College, in what became that College's Cinema Studies Program/Institute.
