Extent36 cm of textual records Administrative HistoryThe Association was constituted in 1857. Its mandate was to promote the cultivation of literature, science, and oratory. The founder and first president was John Campbell, a tutor in Classics at the College. Samuel Sobieski Nelles took over the presidency after Campbell's retirement in 1860. The Association began hosting 'conversaziones' in 1862 and this became a custom for more than 50 years. In 1893, the Association joined with the Jackson Society to form the Union Literary Society. Scope and ContentFonds consists of constitution, 1857; minutes, 1857-1893; correspondence (letterbooks), 1870-1882; treasurer's books, 1857-1892; and library record book, 1885-1891.
