In 1901, A.P. Coleman was appointed to the Department of Geology, University of Toronto. He was made Head of Department in that year, and continued in the headship until retirement in 1922. Association with the Geology Department marks a turning point in Coleman’s publications. Although he continued to work in the summers for the Ontario Department of Mines until 1909, Coleman’s research became increasingly scientific, with a focus on geological stratigraphy. Further administrative responsibilities were added when Coleman became Dean of the Faculty of Arts in 1919. In addition, Coleman was actively involved with the start up of the Royal Ontario Museum, and served as the first Director of the Royal Ontario Museum of Geology from 1914 – 1922.
