Taking pride of place in the Victorian front parlour, celluloid photo albums, whose covers boasted velvet brocade, bevelled mirrors and chromolithographed images of lovely women, cherubic children or bucolic landscapes, contained thick cardboard pages into which cartes-de-viste and larger cabinet photos of family members or celebrities of the day could be inserted.
