Biographical Sketch
Albert Frank (A.F.) Moritz is a prolific poet who has published numerous acclaimed collections and contributed to many anthologies and periodicals. He was born in Niles, Ohio in 1947; his father was a teacher and later a professor of biology and science education, his mother was a grade school teacher. In 1969 he received a B.A. in Journalism from Marquette University, and he later earned an M.A. and Ph.D (English) from that institution. He came to Canada in 1974 with his wife Theresa (Carrothers) and son Blaise (born 1971). Since arriving in Toronto Moritz has worked in a number of occupations, including advertising copywriter and executive, editor and publisher (Watershed Books), and has held various university teaching positions, including senior lecturer at Victoria College. Through the years he has won distinguished awards for his poetry, including a Guggenheim Fellowship, 1990, Selection to the Princeton Series of Contemporary Poets, 1984, and the Griffin Poetry Prize, for Sentinel, 2009.
