Inventory for a Collection of letters written by Samuel Beckett to Laure Rièse

HISTORY OF THE COLLECTION: In the 1980's, a series of letters written by Samuel Beckett and addressed to Laure Rièse was acquired by Victoria University Library. The letters were intended to be the first of many acquisitions that would lead to the creation of the Samuel Beckett fonds, however this did not come to pass. In 1994, the Library received the records of Laure Rièse, and the letters were incorporated into her fonds.

OVERVIEW: Box contains a series of 31 letters written by Samuel Beckett to Laure Rièse from 1969-1986. Box consists of three files: File 1 contains the original 31 letters; File 2 contains the Samuel Beckett letters on microfiche; File 3 contains photocopies of Beckett's letters along with transcriptions and translations by Rièse.

NOTE: The inventory was updated in 2019 after additional letters from 1982-1986 were located in the Library's offices. The microfiche, photocopies and transcriptions in Files 2 and 3 were created before these letters were found, and only the letters from 1969-1982 have been reproduced.
