Biographical Sketch

George Williams Brown (1894-1963), was a historian and editor. Born in Glencoe, Ontario, he received his B.A. from Victoria University in 1915, where he was also a member of the Glee Club. He then received his M.A. and PhD from University of Chicago, 1924. He was a professor in the Department of History, University of Toronto, 1925-1962, and became Professor Emeritus in 1963. Brown was general editor of Dictionary of Canadian Biography, 1959-1963; editor at University of Toronto Press, 1946-1953; and editor, Canadian Historical Review, 1926-1946. He died in Toronto, 18 October, 1963.

Scope and Content

Fonds consists of diary and ephemera from the Glee Club’s tour of the British Isles, 1914.
