Its object was the cultivation of literature, science, and oratory. In 1924, it was superseded by the Students Parliament. Scope and ContentFonds consists of constitution, 1893; minutes, 1893-1911, (including rough, 1893-1900), 1896, 1911-1919, 1919-1922; correspondence, 1907, 1922; song books; and correspondence file concerning repayment of a loan made by the Board of Regents to the Union Literary Society for the purchase of Indian relics, 1903-1913.
